The Marienplatz is the main plaza in Munich. The focal point of it is the Neu Rathaus (the new town hall) which features a large glockenspiel that moves and plays music three times a day. We were there at 5pm to watch. It goes on for nearly 10 minutes!

See the small figures in the green section?
They were jousters and dancers, etc.that moved as the music played. |

| I really like the intricate signs that hang from the storefronts. |

The Viktualienmarkt is a large farmers' market in the center of Munich. The stands are somewhat permanent (I'm not sure if it open in the winter, though). We enjoyed some fresh squeezed juices and bought a wreath for our front door, some cheese, and apple chips.

| This is the wreath I chose. |

| We also liked this one made of hops, but it looked like it would dry out quickly. |
We always like to try the specialty food in the cities we visit. Here in Munich it was the "Schmalznudel," a sort of funnel cake. Yum! Both of our kids look like they're hoping we'll share.

We really liked Munich--it was very easy to get around the city and there was a lot to see. Stay tuned for more about our weekend--the Englischer Gartens, the neighborhood we stayed in, and the Deutsches Museum.
Looks like a fun trip! Do Germans carry their kids around in stroller or Ergo style carriers, or both or neither?
ReplyDeleteThey do use Ergos, but most use pram type strollers, where the babies can lie flat. They even put their babies on their bellies in the pram so they can look around out the front of the stroller! Our jogging type strollers do stand out, plus we were carrying so much stuff on and under them.
DeleteLove your posts about Munich -- especially the photos! Brings back fond memories of my visit there a few years back!
