Two of our favorite books that we bought in Germany were our Stuttgart and Schwaebisch Alb Wimmelbucher. Wimmelbucher are hidden picture books. Each page has so many things to look at; we discover something new nearly every time we look at each book. The Stuttgart book is comprised of several landmark sites in Stuttgart: the airport, the indoor market, the Wilhelma zoo, the Volksfest Wasen (Octoberfest). The Schwaebisch Alb book has images of sites in the wider region around Stuttgart.
One of those sites is a beautiful place called the "Blautopf." This Blautopf ("blue pot") with its magical looking blue water intrigued me!
After looking at it so many times in this well-loved book of ours, I wanted to see it in person! The Blautopf is located in a cute little town called Blaubeuren, about 45 minutes drive from our house in Boeblingen.
Blaubeuren
Here it is! The famed blue water from the book!
There were a few different paths that went around the little lake, both close to the edge of the water, and up higher on the hill. Can you guess which one our kids picked? :)
After walking the loop, we had coffee, apfelschorle, and strudel at a little cafe overlooking the water.

What a nice day at the Blautopf. Our storybook came to life!
