This year we went to Volksfest on the day of the "umzug" (parade)...and we went in traditional trachtenmode! Wearing dirndl and lederhosen has only become popular in the last decade in the state of Baden-Würrtemberg (it's more traditional in Bavaria, where Munich has its Oktoberfest). More and more people are wearing trachtenmode here in Stuttgart now, and we had fun dressing the part. We got our outfits at Lidl (love that place!).
We originally purchased lederhosen for Drew, too, but his response was a resounding "lederNOsen," so I opted to ensure we were all in good spirits for the day and bought the boys matching fest jackets instead.

We spent the day with our friends who have 4 adorable boys.

The tents were packed, even midday. Not really a place for kids--we stayed outside, except for a quick bathroom trip.
I think Drew would have liked to stay.

We spent the whole day at the fest--we were all wiped out by the end of the day, but it was a lot of fun! That will likely be our last Volksfest in Germany, but we can wear our outfits again to Fruehlingsfest in the spring.

ReplyDeletePoor Drew--I remember that he didn't like trying on the outfit but thought maybe he'd put it on for the actual Fest!! The jackets are really cute too though. Your friends' kids are ADORABLE! You two look like two teachers on a preschool field trip hahaha.
ReplyDeleteDid William like the parade? The last parade we took V to (4th of July maybe?) she was kinda freaked out by all the people dressed up and trying to give her candy hahaha
My favorite is the pic of what it usually looks like to take pictures with kids :-) You guys get so many good ones, it's good to see you have bad days just like the rest of us! hahah
